Project T-Mobile network planning system
The objective of this project is the development of T-Mobile’s mobile network planning system. 3D Geo GmbH has been working on the integration of 3d planning tools since 2003. Since 2004 3D Geo has been contracted to revise the entire mobile network planning system from PegaPlan. The project resulted from a long working relationship between the directors of 3D Geo GmbH and the managers of T-Mobile’s research and development departments for geo-information systems.

The 3D-Planning tools contain complete geo-virtual, 3Dimensional surroundings, through which the mobile network technicians can implement a fully interactive terrain models with direct access to online databases, from which they may obtain specific objects, which enables them to configure and optimize. For this project, tools were developed by 3D Geo, especially the LandXplorer system was adapted for the client and integrated into the T-Mobile system. 3D Geo was also contracted to continue development and service from PegaPlan.

3D Geo GmbH has been further contracted to completely analyze the existing system from a software technical point of view and to develop the conditions for a long term transformation of the system architecture. Further, 3D Geo is working parallel on an installation of the complete system (ca. 2 million lines of code). Especially the strategies and techniques of *refactoring of the entire software are being determined and implemented in certain areas, to ensure the long term cost effective further development and necessary technological innovation. At the same time 3D geo is developing within the specifications of the contract to improve the graphical interface of the system, based on user centred design and usability research. *Improving a computer program by reorganising its internal structure without altering its external behaviour
